Adults Across the Pond

Perhaps Great Britain gets it.

THE Government is discussing with airport operators plans to introduce a screening system that allows security staff to focus on those passengers who pose the greatest risk.

The passenger-profiling technique involves selecting people who are behaving suspiciously, have an unusual travel pattern or, most controversially, have a certain ethnic or religious background.

The system would be much more sophisticated than simply picking out young men of Asian appearance. But it would cause outrage in the Muslim community because its members would be far more likely to be selected for extra checks.

...and, they would find it much more difficult to blow up planes.

Officials at the Department for Transport (DfT) have discussed the practicalities of introducing such a system with airport operators, including BAA. They believe that it would be more effective at identifying potential terrorists than the existing random searches.

Well I guess so! But don't expect this kind of common sense to spring up here anytime soon.

I think it's a great idea to make the so-called moderate Muslims feel the pinch. It is after all these moderates that justify the actions of the homicidal lunatics that share their faith. It's the moderate Muslims throughout the world that tolerate the Sharia Sham and the Jihad Johnnies... and criticize us in a de facto passive aggressive assault on the West. Let the Muslim moderates live with the fruits of their tolerance and inaction.

Some anti-immigrant nut would want something like this to control(restrict) immigration. It is ok to use such measures to prevent terrorism but this should not be replicated everywhere.

Anonymous,

You might consider me an anti-immigrant nut. The only immigrants I want to come here are those who wish to become Americans... and embrace American culture.

I have no desire to see a "Little Tehran" spring up in Michigan or anywhere else in the country.

If you want to stay Arab, or Chinese, or Mexican, or whatever... stay in your own country and work to make it better.

I was refering to people like Tancrerdo who think racial profiling has to be applied to apprehend illegal immigrants. I did not make any slur against you.

Unless brainwashed by extreme idealogies like communism or radical islam, assimilation is not a problem for any immigrant.

The little Italies, German towns are part of American folklore which we treasure today. I've been to a second-generation Greek wedding and found everyone conversing in English. Immigration is not something to be feared.

How does one change their race?

FKAB,

You don't change your race. You change your identification. He could have said, "If you don't want to become American..."

We welcome anybody (non-criminal) from anywhere who wants to become American. The people we don't welcome are the ones who hate what we are, want to keep their old affiliations, but at the same time want to take from us everything they can. In the olden days, that would be called "pillaging."

Geez Skyepuppy...

Even your comments are better than my posts.

Anonymous,

That's a great point about the Little Italys etc... But I do believe the immigration situation in the U.S. is out of control both in numbers and the kinds of people that are immigrating.

Fkab,

Always good to hear from you. I think Skyepuppy answered your comment for me.

I'm all for profiling. Period.

The facts gathered about the "people" who commit these acts of terror are as follows

1)males 18-35
2)middle eastern
3)muslim

Why do I, a white female clearly in my forties, get the extra special treatment at the airport while Abdula behind me is free to gather his change and wallet and proceed to the terminal? My husband on the other hand, gets the extra, EXTRA treatment. They sit him down and have a real nice conversation with him.
He's 2nd generation Italian and ALL American, not a threat to this great nation.
I think they should sit Abdula down and talk with him not me!

Anon,
I think immigrants to our country should have something more to offer than a bunch of children to educate and a family that needs medical and financial handouts.

Anon,
And to me, profiling is just using common sense. Why shouldn't we use what we know to stop people from bypassing the immigration process?
