Global Dimming
(no, really...)
Global dimming may be the yin to global warming's yang.
The theory is that the amount of sunlight, or solar energy, falling on the earth has been dropping steadily over the past 50 years or so.
That could mean, scientists believe, that global dimming is actually mitigating the effects of global warming.
Oooooooo K.
The answer is fascinating. Global dimming seems to be caused by air pollution. As pollutants from vehicles, factories, power plants and the like make their way into the atmosphere, they carry with them tiny particles such as ash and soot compounds.
Those particles reflect sunlight away from the earth, and the greater the presence of these particles, the greater the effect on the amount of solar radiation that reaches the surface.
Meanwhile, the world's industrial nations seem to finally be reining in particle pollution. Ironically, that could be the catalyst that speeds up global warming.

And blah blah blah. Methinks the reduced particle pollution is accompanied by reduced CO2 emissions, so it should "all come out in the wash" as we say in Greentown, and the loony environmentalists need to come out with something else for the weak-minded to worry about.

With the war raging in the middle east. A "crazy" muslim shooting Jews in Seattle and "islam will dominate" posters appearing at every anti-America anti-Israel rally in every country.
"Methinks" we need to be concerned about
"Global Dhimmi-ing"
Ooooohhh! Excellent turn of a phrase, Janice!!!
Chris,
If they can keep getting mileage out of global warming / climate change, the environmentalists don't have to go to the trouble of inventing a new catastrophe that will make the world hand control over to them. No, they'll milk this one to the last drop.
Maybe global dimming is the reason the Atlantic is warmer this year, thus reducing the threat of hurricanes and causing tropical storm Chris to fall apart.
P.S. How's it feel to have a tropical storm named after you?
Bryan,
The entire staff at Malott's Blog is proud to have a major tropical storm named after our leader, and we believe that the honor is wholly indicative of the scope and magnitude of this mega-media colossus known as Malott's Blog.
We are humbled by our greatness, our illusions, and our somewhat pathetic need for attention.
Yes, but Chris, you fell apart before you could blow through Cuba and free the political prisoners by destroying their prisons!
(I think the operative word is "delusions" not "illusions." There's a difference and it looks like you're leaning heavily toward the former....)
Skyepuppy,
Well, then leave me with both my illusions and delusions.
