So Does God Still Bless Israel?

We know the Israeli military kicks butt. We know Jews make good comedians. But was there a reason God picked them to be His "Chosen People" and does He still favor them?

The French Ambassador to England evidently doesn't think so and recently made a diparaging remark about Israel. The remark is mentioned below after a few facts from Israpundit:

The Middle East has been growing date palms for centuries. The average tree is about 18-20 feet tall and yields about 38 pounds of dates a year. >
Israeli date trees are now yielding 400 pounds/year and are short enough to be harvested from the ground or a short ladder .

Israel, the 100th smallest country, with less than 1/1000th of the world's population, can lay claim to the following:

The cell phone was developed in Israel by Israelis working in the Israeli branch of Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel. Most of the Windows NT and XP operating systems were developed by Microsoft-Israel.

The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel. Both the Pentium-4 microprocessor and the Centrino processor were entirely designed, developed and produced in Israel. The Pentium microprocessor in your computer was most likely made in Israel. Voice mail technology was developed in Israel. Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel .

Israel has the fourth largest air force in the world (after the U.S, Russia and China).

Israel's $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate neighbors combined.

Israel has the highest percentage in the world of home computers per capita.

According to industry officials, Israel designed the airline industry's most impenetrable flight security. US officials now look (finally) to Israel for advice on how to handle airborne security threats.

Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin - 109 per 10,000 people --as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed. With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and startups, Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world -- apart from the Silicon Valley, U. S.

Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the U. S. Outside the United States and Canada , Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies.

Israel has the highest average living standards in the Middle East. The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK.

Twenty-four per cent of Israel's workforce holds university degrees, ranking third in the industrialized world, after the United States and Holland and 12 per cent hold advanced degrees.

Israel has the world's second highest per capita of new books.

Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees, made more remarkable because this was achieved in an area considered mainly desert.

Israel has more museums per capita than any other country.

Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U. S., over 70 in Japan, and less than 60 in Germany. With over 25% of its work force employed in technical professions. Israel places first in this category as well.

All the above while engaged in regular wars with an implacable enemy that seeks its destruction, and an economy continuously under strain by having to spend more per capita on its own protection than any other county on earth.

AND THE FRENCH AMBASSADOR IN ENGLAND SAYS :
"ISRAEL IS NOTHING BUT A SH___Y LITTLE COUNTRY"
http://www.israpundit.com/archives/2005/09/i_never_tire_of.php

I left out about half of Israpundit's facts.

All things considered, the future for Israel looks brighter than that of France. I think we all know which is the crappy little country.

Based on the facts listed, I would say yes He does. Israel created an oasis in the desert. Yes, God has blessed Israel.

In answering your initial question, I would prefer to look at it from a Biblical perspective:

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6

1. People who don't believe in Jesus can't go to heaven.

2. The only alternative, therefore, is hell.

3. Jews don't believe in Jesus.

4. Therefore, God burns Jews in hell.

More proof? Well, if you say so.

We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ.

Galatians 2:15

As much as it conflicts with your personal opinions, the Christian God doesn't like his chosen people very much.

In case any of you were going to scream at me for taking these out of context, please first read the chapters and give me reasons why I've taken them out of context.

Thanks.

fkab,

Well I must say that I'm impressed with your Biblical acumen... it kind of surprises me. Were you brought up in the Church?

Most of us Evangelicals believe that God still has special ties with Israel even though most Jews have rejected Jesus.

Also, though I'm no expert on the subject, the book of Revelations reveals a big Jewish conversion coming at the end of time, and a big part for the Jews to play.

So for this and other reasons, I believe it's a very bad idea to even curse Israel, let alone attack her.

I'm going to go out on a limb and give my opinion here, but with the understanding that it is just that.

I actually tend to agree with fkab, in part, for the reasons he has listed. (I know, surprise!)

I believe that God did create one way to get to heaven and that is through acceptance of His Son, Jesus. Anyone who tries to get to God by other means will not be successful, period. I think the scriptures make that point abundantly clear.

Now, I also believe that God did make Israel His "chosen people", but that was in the Old Testament. Once Jesus came to Earth, God's plan for the salvation of all people was put into play. The Jews had just been given advance warning, so to speak. They knew of all the signs of the Messiah, they'd been waiting for Him, they had all the tools they needed to recognize Him when He came. God chose them to have all the special signs, but ultimately, He still gave them free will to deny Him, or in this case, His Son. If God had a chosen people who could get to heaven another way, then not only would He be denying their free will, but it would seem that He would be contradicting Himself by first saying that the Jews could get to heaven a different way than everyone else, and then by saying that there was only one way to heaven.

That being said, I think God still dearly loves the Jews and that He desperately wants them to return to Him. He spent a lot of His time on earth trying to reveal Himself to the Jews, and some, who were less caught up in the legal aspects of the Jewish faith, understood that this was their long-awaited Messiah. The rest focused more on being "religious" and legalistic and missed the bigger picture.

Does God still bless Israel? I don't know. I could contend that the reason they are as technologically advanced and educated is due more in part to the influence of a blessed United States (founded upon Christian principles) being a close ally. I could also contend that a democratic society will always prosper more than any other society. Maybe God does still pour out His blessings on the Jews, but I have a hard time believing that He still favors them. The New Testament seems full of examples of how God reached out and extended His love and blessings on the Gentiles (the rest of the world). That seems to indicate to me that the time of being partial to the Jews was over. God presented Himself first to the Jews, He gave them ample opportunity to accept Him and then, when they chose to ignore or deny Him, He extended the invitation to us all. Anyone who accepts Him as Lord and Saviour then became His chosen people.

FKAB,

Nicely referenced. But...

God prepared hell as a place for the devil and his fallen angels. His intent was not that any people go there.

God would not force people to spend time with Him on earth, so why would He force people who hate Him to spend eternity in His presence? With heaven and hell as the only options, people choose their own fate.

God loves even those people who reject Him, and He longs for them to change and come to Him.

There are plenty of Jews who believe in Jesus.

After reading this post I think I can see why the Arabs are so envious and hateful. The men have some sort of macho problem anyway, don't they?

Tsofah said...

Yes, G-d does and has and will bless Israel, and it's people. Before someone slaps my hand for writing G-d without the "o", it is because I am a Messianic Believer. In this way I show respect to Father G-d, and to His Son.

HOWEVER: the comments by fkab are vitrolic. Why would a Jewish person want to come to a Moschiach who is represented by people who say they burn in hell? Isn't this the state all mankind are in, not just Jews? Yet, G-d loves us enough to draw us to Him, and it is in His way and in His time that He does so.

Being a Christian does not give me or anyone else the right to speak words of death instead of life to anyone. If we judge, we will be judged even more harshly. May G-d show us the way to love, in the love of Moschiach Yeshua/Jesus!

Hmmm... a spectrum of replies. Interesting.

Malott,

Yes I was raised as a Christian. I read the Bible over the course of two years (I'm a slow reader and it's a HUGE book) and began to really investigate my faith. It seemed a bit hypocritical of me to be a Christian without really understanding the how and the why of religion.

As for the Revelations bit, I haven't heard of this argument before. Most Christians will look at me and blink when I tell them that their god sends his chosen people to hell. If you could reference the particular quote, I would happily read into it.

skyepuppy,

God prepared hell as a place for the devil and his fallen angels. His intent was not that any people go there.

God is omniscient, and therefore knew ahead of time who he would send to hell.

God loves even those people who reject Him, and He longs for them to change and come to Him.

I find it hard to believe that a God who loves sinners would send them to hell. It doesn't make sense. That's like putting a belligerent child in a furnace because he was rude to his parents.

HOWEVER: the comments by fkab are vitrolic.

Don't call me vitriolic for pointing out Bible quotes to you. If you want to accuse anyone, accuse your god.

Mary,

Thanks for stopping by.

Actually, I think calling it a "macho problem" is very much under-stating the problem this culture of misogyny has.

Malott said...

Delta Vines,

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

God told Abraham He would bless those that bless Abraham and curse those who curse him. I believe that is still His promise to Israel.

I encourage everyone to visit delta Vines' blog page.

fkab

Rev 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

Many people think this will be Elijah and Moses.

The 144,000 Jews / Israelites who are sealed in Revelation 7:4-8 are sealed for the specific purpose of being “evangelists” during the Tribulation period.

Those two parts are what I was referring to.

fkab, you realize of course that you now have several people praying for you... that you return to the Church...

Jacob said...

Wait a second... are you saying that the Bible contradicts itself on the point about worshipping Jesus or burn in hell?!?

you realize of course that you now have several people praying for you... that you return to the Church...

Keep praying. In fact, while you're at it, pray for a cure for disease, cancer, poverty and violence. Pray for an end to earthquakes, hurricanes and wildfires. Pray for the Israel/Palestine/Lebanon thing to end. Pray for all wars to end. Pray. When this works, I might consider your religion.

fkab:

blame my god? My G-d is the Lord G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; of Moses, of the prophets, of Matthew, of Paul, of James...and on and on! He is the One True G-d whom Yeshua/Jesus said is "AbBA, Father". Ironically, He is the G-d of Jesus/Yeshua because He is the One who sent Jesus/Yeshua to earth to show us how to love, not hate. He made a way to be forgiven. He was unpopular with the religious head honchos (Sanhedrin) because he liked to hang around with people like me. Piety and religiousity get us no where. Nor does cut downs and anger and spite.

As far as burning in hell goes, it seems to me that Jesus/Yeshua spoke of such in Matthew when He says those who don't help feed, encourage, clothe, and reach out to those who need Him. There was this thing about reaching out to the least of these is reaching out to Him...right? So when you degrade and judge and try to verbally execute such judgement, it might not be just the Jews you are speaking to! Oh, yes, Jesus/Yeshua is a Jew. Followed the Jewish laws, observances, and holidays.

None of us are perfect. I know I am not. But it's ONLY through the grace of G-d and not my works that He has provided life for me in His Son. Your posting would cause me to think Jesus/Yeshua would reject me no matter what. Just think about it, ok?

And if you don't want to, that's ok too.

Jacob said...

Ummmm... OK Delta. Not entirely sure what you wanted me to take from that, but what the heck. Firstly, I don't want to encroach on your idea of God and Jesus and whatever else. Destroying your life purpose isn't my life purpose. But I do think that you are getting angry at me for doing nothing but quote from YOUR Bible so as to show that the Biblical God isn't as fluffy and nice as the one you have in your head. Don't accuse me of vitriol, blasphemy or, you know, anything else just because I turn your own Bible against you. Don't blame me for what your Bible says. I'm merely the messenger.

Moving right along.

Ironically, He is the G-d of Jesus/Yeshua because He is the One who sent Jesus/Yeshua to earth to show us how to love, not hate.

A peaceful Jesus? Sounds nice in theory, but lets take a look at something Jesus himself said:

Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.

For I have come to set man against his father.
And a daughter against her mother.
And a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
And one's foes will be members of one's own household.

Matthew 10:34-36

So no, Jesus was not here to teach peace and love among his people. He came to bring a sword of all things.

Again, don't shoot the messenger.

Christina said...

fkab,

Okay, let me take another stab in this debate. You quoted Matthew 10:34-36. I went back and reread the entire chapter. (Yes, reread as I have read it more than once before.)

While you quote it accurately, your interpretation is juvenile (and I don't mean that as an insult on your age. I too am fairly young...at least not nearly as old as Andrew or Malott!) You read the passage and saw that it said that Jesus did not come to "bring peace, but a sword".

Yes, Jesus did say that and He meant it. He did not come JUST to bring peace. Jesus brings peace to those who will believe in Him. He brings that peace through ultimate victory over evil, sin and death. And as is always the case, peace comes after victory.

Yes, Jesus is peace-loving, but He also understood that in order to procure that peace, He would have to conquer evil. The only way that would be accomplished was through battle, both physical and spiritual.

You know, you strike me as someone who is quite smart. In fact, I think you're smart enough to be able to interpret that passage just like I did. The problem is that you don't like what the Bible has to say because you disagree with it. So rather than spend the time to figure out what it really says, you'd rather play "dumb" and try to twist the words of God to make them fit what you want them to say.

It's almost funny because you are doing exactly what you accuse the rest of us of doing. It's not funny though, because the consequences are deadly.
