(CBS/AP) Miss USA, Tara Conner, has agreed to go into rehab and will be allowed to keep her title, Donald Trump announced Tuesday.

is a beautiful woman without discretion.

Sometimes I think they should change the title of the pageant to something else, something like, "Miss Beautiful Swimsuit Body 2006" or "The Prettiest Woman in America Who Looks Far Too Mature for 21". That would be appropriate.
Then again, it seems that more and more, the girls who participate (and party) are pretty accurate representations of young women in America. They try to look more mature and sexy than is appropriate for their age, they are obsessed with outward appearances more than inner character and they care more about how men judge them than anything else. It's pretty sad.
I realize that this is a broad generalization, but there is some truth here. I just wish that Miss America was less about the shallow, fleeting outward beauty of women and more about what makes a woman truly beautiful for life...her character. But our society doesn't value that anymore, so I suppose the title should just stay the same...
Last night on the Glen Beck Show Brent Bozell said that Jr High-aged kid's values are Fame, Physical Appearance, and Money. It's indicative of the fact that Pop-Culture has replaced the Home - and certainly the Church - in influencing the development of values and character.
There was a lot of worldly influence when I was in high school, but we didn't have anything like Paris Hilton.
I too watched Glenn Beck and agree 100 percent. This woman will learn nothing. It's also teaching our children that your (bad) actions are free of consequences. In fact, you'll get MORE attention for behaving badly.
The only thing achieved by this whole issue was the interest in the pageant and Trump getting free publicity.
It looks like MADD has cut their ties with Ms. Teen USA due to a similar situation.
At least MADD had the decency to stick to its principles. Not like Trump, who seems to have given in to a pretty face that cried so contritely.
What does this say to Miss USA's runner-up, who may have behaved herself properly and if so should rightfully be Miss USA now?
Rules and character don't seem to matter anymore.
and now there's the battle with my "favorite" tv persona . . . Rosie! Ugh!
