This is the female I used to sleep with. Her name was Helen.
I snapped this photo after one of her baths. Don't get the wrong idea. We slept together, but we bathed separately. That's how Helen wanted it.
She was Laborador Retriever, born on June 1st 1986. On July 19th I carried her into my house in one hand.
Helen developed a cancer on her nose and I had to have her put to sleep, October 7th, 1994.
In her 8 years, 4 months, and 7 days, Helen never bit anyone. She never even growled at anyone, except in play. I miss her.

She's a dreamboat. And so clean!
I still have that shower cap.
Love the shower cap.
Beautiful dog.
You should get another.
Oh Chris, she's beautiful.
I have a Beagle-Black Lab mix. The only thing Beagle on him is his short legs, he's all Lab.
I too, carried him in one hand when he came to live with us. I can imagine how much you miss her. After having Hershey around for the last 6 years, I can't imagine not having him.
I agree with Skye, get another Lab. As you know they make great companions and in my opinion, are the best dogs.
Helen would want you to be happy, get another not to replace her, as you could never. But as a reminder of how happy Helen and you were together.
I have a yellow lab named Moses. He was a fathers' day present from my kids. He is a three year old, 110 lbs. bundle of energy and joy. My kids got him for me because I missed my German Shepard, Rutger, so much. I had to have him put down because of arthritis/ displasia (it was the hardest, kindest thing I have ever done).
Get another dog. The ladies are right: Helen would want you to be happy.
"...it was the hardest, kindest thing I have ever done..."
Well said. That's always such a tough decision.
Congrats on the lab. They're great dogs.
Chris - I wandered over from Christina's blog. LOVE the picture. My worst fear (petwise) is putting one of them to sleep because there's no way I could afford pet illness treatment. That would just be too hard to even think about - I would miss them too much!!
Thanks for stopping by, Bekah.
If you're a friend of Christina's, you must be OK.
Well hopefully she'd still claim me!! I suppose you can ask her if she wants to. I was in the wedding - so at least she claimed me then!!
Hmmm. I believe I was in that wedding, too.
I thought that you might remember it. It certainly went down in the history books of "a bekah wedding." I seem to invite disaster of some sort wherever I go. That time it was a dress disaster.
