Fox Cartoons and the Election

Last night I watched snippets of The Simpsons, American Dad, and Family Guy. All three took pre-election potshots at Republicans.

Simpsons: War in Iraq
American Dad: Republicans hate gays.
Family Guy: Military recruiting and Iraq.

When exactly did the Leftists in this country get their strangle-hold on the popular culture? Granted, only stupid people are going to allow a cartoon to influence their vote, but we have a great many stupid, irresponsible, and hedonistic people in our country. And I believe these kind of shows are playing a big part in rearing a new generation of Liberals.

Hollywood. The "big one" would be a tragedy fraught with benefits.

Aww come on now, Family Guy is hilarious. Simpsons are a little past their prime (like, a decade past their prime) and American Dad is just a lame copy'n'paste job of Family Guy, but it's all good.

I would agree with you that all these cartoons take some sort of swipe at US policy, and that it therefore has a left wing tinge to it, but that's only because:

1. It's satire.

2. If they're too PC to blast the government now and then, who the hell is going to watch them?

3. Cartoonists are like the subversive philosophers of the modern era. If Voltaire were alive today, he'd be making left wing cartoons too.

Honestly Malott, these things are on TV because people watch them. I watch them. And so do you, as it transpires. Call it insidious mind controlling propaganda if you will, but I personally think that it's just good inoffensive fun designed to mock those who take themselves too seriously (read: conservatives).

Another one that I just thought of:

4. conservative cartoons would suck arse.

Jacob,

Are you suggesting that I just need to relax and not take everything so seriously?

You may have a point.

Hey,

you could make a lot of jokes about liberals if you had a mind to do it.

Well, I suppose you could start with me falling hook, line and sinker for the Mother Teresa post.

'Twas mightily embarrassing.

Cut yourself some slack. If you'd read the Mother T post more carefully a bright guy such as yourself would have definitely caught on... and maybe I didn't write it that well, either.

Jacob,

You may have a point on the conservative cartoons. Liberals have no problem laughing at conservatives. Conservatives can often laugh at themselves.

Conservatives have a great time laughing at liberals. Liberals, instead of laughing at themselves react as if they were sucking a lemon.

AICS,

You've got it exactly right. Liberals are born without a sense of humor, when it comes to laughing at their own foibles--perhaps because they're incapable of seeing their own foibles.

I've seen studies (actually reports about the studies) that said Republicans are happier than Democrats. The ability to laugh at things that are not at someone else's expense is (according to me) a contributing factor to these results.

Jacob,

The fact that you found a little bit of humor in your embarrassment says there's still hope for you. :0)
