Post-Racial America

Cross burnings. Schoolchildren chanting "Assassinate Obama." Black figures hung from nooses. Racial epithets scrawled on homes and cars.

From California to Maine, police have documented a range of alleged crimes, from vandalism and vague threats to at least one physical attack. Insults and taunts have been delivered by adults, college students and second-graders.

There have been "hundreds" of incidents since the election, many more than usual, said Mark Potok, director of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate crimes.

Potok, who is white, said he believes there is "a large subset of white people in this country who feel that they are losing everything they know, that the country their forefathers built has somehow been stolen from them."

Grant Griffin, a 46-year-old white Georgia native, expressed similar sentiments: "I believe our nation is ruined and has been for several decades and the election of Obama is merely the culmination of the change.

Let's consider a different Obama... An Obama that believes in a strong defense and celebrates the American soldier... An Obama that believes we should strictly enforce immigration laws and protect our borders... An Obama that denounces Acorn and promises to use his Justice Department to prosecute any and all who would undermine our elections... An Obama that denounces Judicial Tyranny and promises judges who respect the Constitution and the will of the people... An Obama that champions traditional marriage and family values... And Obama that champions personal responsibility... An Obama that champions capitalism, free markets, and free enterprise.

This black man would have won every state.

But the ultra-liberal Obama represents the antithesis of all these ideas. That's why so many good people are saying that we have lost our country.

I remember when Republicans were begging for a Condoleeza Rice candidacy.

It's not about Obama's race. It's the Obama Culture that frightens so many.

"...from vandalism and vague threats to at least one physical attack."

One physical attack!?! How shocking! Needless to say, if McCain had been elected... Events would have dwarfed the incidents mentioned above.

I disagree that the examples you related are not racially motivated. I, as a black American did not vote for Mr. Obama, however, I do know the difference between disagreeing with someone for the positions they hold & not for the color of their skin ! Be not deceived, Noose's & cross-burnings are all related to race! (Satanically motivated). It is also interesting that in your blog there is reference to whites suggesting that they are loosing 'their' nation. Same old 'us' & 'them' perch. I think that is useful when you're right & favoring God's righteous cause. I consider this 'my' nation as a natural born American citizen only (doesn't matter what color I am)! This notion of a 'Black' & 'White' America (although clearly at work in this nation) is a fruitless issue & a divisive waste of time. White Americans who disagree with Mr. Obama being the next president to the point of believing in & advocating for an evil response should perhaps search themselves & elevate their own minds & express themselves accordingly, based on the issues alone! Race does not elevate the discussion - that's only our 'earth suit' anyway. Man looks on the outside, God looks @ the heart! (1 Samuel 16:7). By the way, Mr. Obama needed more than the so-called 'black vote' to win! This tells me, as has always been the case, that whether one votes or not, we have either decided to 'actually weigh-in' @ the voting booth or 'take what we get', either way - we participate. To me, Americans as a whole (regardless of race) are responsible for those whom we elect & the state of our nation - from the local to the national! Those who feel powerless, still have the power to exercise prayer & also to vote. It would be nice to see people operate from the biblical perspective & abandon these devil-made divisions (race, gender, etc.) but I don't hold my breathe for that! Even so, Come Lord Jesus!

Mary,

Well said. But while I believe the racial overtones in the protestations are disgusting, They have much more to do with Obama's politics than the color of his skin.

The main point of my post was that if a conservative Black, such as Condoleeza Rice had been elected, these same misguided rednecks would have a wait and see attitude.

Do you agree?

I agree that Condoleeza Rice 'seems' much more palatable(although, I wouldn't have voted for her either!). Certainly for me, Mr. Obama represents a radical tilt to the left however, if nothing about him changed except the color of his skin, there would be no mention of nooses or racial epithets therefore, those responses have to do with his race & not his politics! It's a shame that there is still that element of society ('rednecks' as you call them) that find this form of expression acceptable. Put the most conservative, liberal or left candidate in the oval office & at the end of the day I don't care what color they are - let me examine your previous record, tendencies & trends!

I believe many of these attacks are racially motivated. There are people who are very, very biased - remember the men who were planning to attempt to assassinate Obama, as well as murder other people because of their color? :-(

This may sound equally as biased, but it is not intended to be so: Race played a part also in getting Obama elected. Many men who were white have given the same message Obama did and lost their bid for the presidency. It was race, and the liberal policies that have led to his election.

It's really sad people could not have gotten behind Alan Keyes the several times he ran for president! I voted for him and would have been much more at ease with his policies. Too bad the press just shut him out.

So, who really elected Obama? The people, or the press?
