Conservative in 2012

Now that we know what doesn't win... Let's take a look at possible candidates for 2012.

* Governor Mark Sanford
Who? Maybe Grammy could tell us something about him... I remember him dying in a video in which he tried to defend McCain's in an interview w/ Blitzer. Still, since he was mentioned as a possible VP, his name is out there.

* Governor Mike Huckabee
With a new television show on Fox, Huckabee may be positioning himself for a run in 2012. This would again split the conservative vote, because so many people vote for who they "like," and not for who would be the strongest candidate.

** Governor Sarah Palin
This is one smart and competent woman... A quick study who has been successful at everything she has attempted... But she was not ready for the 2008 campaign. The trashing will continue because the Left fears her, but if she spends the next two years getting herself ready, she might surprise us all.

**** Governor Tim Pawlenty
This unashamed Evangelical governor of Minnesota has spoken at March for Life rallies in St.Paul. If he can deliver his state... And if he wants it... He might be the strongest candidate the Republicans can field.

**** Governor Mitt Romney
If not for the Huckabee campaign, I believe Mitt would have been the GOP nominee in '08. He was the choice of Coulter, Limbaugh, Ingraham, Hewitt, Malkin, and other Conservatives I respect. If he can make himself look Pro Life and a little less stiff... And has learned from his mistakes this year... He could be the go-to guy... Because he exudes competence.

***** Governor Bobby Jindal
I don't see any weaknesses here. Conservative... Competent... Attractive young family... Not white... Many see him as the front-runner.

I hope you will take a moment and vote in the comment section. "Write-ins" accepted, of course.

I like Governor Pawlenty of Minnesota. He is a conservative Christian who has proven he can win in a liberal state.

This guy is, at the moment, my choice.

If I'm still around in '12, I'll be voting for Romney.

Too soon for me to pick, though I'll be very interested to watch all of these people evovle over the next several years. Probably our best contribution from South Cacky-Lacky would be our wonderful senator Jim DeMint. Check out his voting record. I don't know a lot about Mark Sanford, but I'm not aware of any red flags. What's up with Minnesota??? How can both Al Franken and Governor Pawlenty be so popular in the same state?

I voted for Romney in the primary even though it was over by the time Ohio voted.

Going forward I still like Romney. I look for Palin to be a player as well as Jindal.

I'm voting for a Jindal/Palin ticket.

None of the above.

We just got rid of a jerk like all of the above. We don't want to return to that.

Pops,

Here's praying that you, and conservatives like you are around to make a difference.

Grammy,

That's a great question. I'd like to think that without the Obama coat tails Al Franken would have gotten creamed. But in another liberal state, people aren't embarrassed to vote for Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy... So who knows!

Janice,

If Palen - gets ready - runs - and loses to Jindal... I think you have the winning ticket.

Anonymous,

Please consider that after three years of President Obama, the American people may be calling the the 8 years of the Bush Administration "The Good Old Days."

Mike Pence in 2008!

Seriously, he would be my number 1 choice and I know that he is a solid true conservative with the ability to stand up to oppostition.

Of your list, I like the sounds of Bobby Jindal, but I still don't know a lot about him.

I personally think that Sarah Palin would be a good choice, but I'm not sure that the damage done in this campaign is reversible. It's sort of like the Dan Quayle effect.

Christina,

Do you think Pence might be running? I think he would make a very solid candidate.

And Palin... We have to remember that this is a housewife with a very average education who transformed herself into an effective and popular governor.

If she gets herself ready and starts campaigning in 2010 and is the "real thing"... She can overcome any damage she has sustained. She has that kind of appeal and communicative skills.

But she has a lot of work to do.

And thanks for your comments!

I vote we go with a governor, not a senator. Governors have exeutive experience, something that gives them a running start in office. It's something that Obama lacks, and that lack will show itself very quickly.

Skyepuppy,

Do you have a favorite governor among my six?

Sanford in 2012...he's the real deal. He spent six years in Congress and actually left on time unlike some other members of the class of '94. Check him out testifying before Congress last week telling Charlie Rangell to keep his latest bailout package rather than giving it to state governments to spend.

Please consider that after 3 years of an Obama presidency people may be saying that he is the greatest president since Reagan. Also, if you recall, Nixon never did recover from the disgrace his presidency turned out to be. I suspect Bush will find himself in the same boat.

Jindal would be my top choice.
Eric Cantor of Virginia would be second.
Potential Veeps would be Huckabee, Thompson, Pawlenty, Romney

Palin is best as a Governor. If she can run and win a Senate or Rep seat, then after a couple of years of that she MIGHT be able to run. When you have a child with Down's Syndrome, much of your life is taken up in the care of such a child.

Chris,

I have serious doubts that Pence is planning a White House run, but then again, maybe the election will push him over the edge.

As for Palin, although I like what she says, I have some reservations. It's hard to know what is true and what is rumor, but I think she's got a lot of growing to do before she's truly ready. Don't get me wrong, she was what McCain needed, but would we all feel the same if a Reagan-esque candidate had been in McCain's place?

That's all I have to say...for now.

Anon 5:44,

Your comparison of Bush to Nixon is laughable. Whatever passes for thought in this country has conjured up the notion that "things can't be any worse than under Bush". Oh yes, they can. If during this economic slowdown Obama actually raises anybody's taxes or increases our energy costs by a foolish response to the Climate Change hoax, we will find out how bad things can get.

Hopefully these things were mere pandering to the Left by Obama. If so, we can expect some howling by them if he takes a sensible approach instead of trashing the economy.

Let's see...Bush and Nixon, both right wing conservatives, both liars, both criminals. Your right, how dare I compare.

Dear "anonymous",

There is a big difference between someone who purposefully lies and someone who makes an honest mistake based on flawed information. (The same mistake that many on the left also made, coincidentally.)

Nice try.

Chris,

I like Palin and Jindal. I was a Romney supporter, but I came across too much opposition to him because 1) he's Mormon or 2) he's plastic. I'm not sure he could win.

Huckabee kept saying REALLY stupid stuff. Not the Biden type of stupid but the shoot-your-campaign-in-the-foot type of stupid. Of course, I don't remember any specifics. I just remember wincing often over what he said.
