More from State Senator Jeff Drozda on Illegal Immigration

I sent out a couple more emails asking specifics from my state representatives. I've yet to hear back from Eric Turner, but Drozda sent me this:

The states have little say on the specific issue of immigration ie. sending them back. However, we do have a say on who can and cannot receive state funding and programs. It is my understanding that hiring illegals already carries a fine...the feds must enforce. But the state may be able to pass similar laws. If we can't put up walls on the entire US borders (they are working in the San Diego area), then we have got to do what we can to track them and document them in Indiana.

Even though the emasculating effect of the Federal Government on State Legislatures is relatively complete, it sounds to me as if there are state options that could be effective. Still, it would take action on the part of the public to stir a back-biting two party system into action, even on the state level.

We all know just how much frustration and disgust is out there on this issue. But that doesn't always translate into letters, emails, and phone call to representatives in government. We are a spoiled, distracted, and lazy lot in this country, and when we as private citizens fail to lobby our representatives, all they hear are the special interest groups.

If every citizen who is royally ticked off over the government's inaction would take the time to voice their angry opinion to their state reps, there just might be a new law written... and maybe even passed.

Good post, Chris.

You're absolutely right. We are lazy and we need to do more.
Enough said.
