Hawking and Spitting

My cold moved into my chest on Wednesday, and now I sound like a walking tuberculin ward. Kleenex tissues are my constant companion, because when you cough up something chewable, it's best to spit it out.

I am not charming company right now.

I am back at work and have been told that my cold-induced deep voice is very sexy. Just my voice. Evidently the rest of me is still pedestrian and frumpy.

The pitiless women I work with will give me no sympathy. They will just laugh when my voice cracks, and keep their distance. I will suffer alone.

Sooooo, it IS called hawking!

Janice,

It could be "hocking." I couldn't find it in my usual sources, so I figured I could spell it anyway I wanted.

With my cold, it is actually coughing, hawking, and spitting.

EWWWWW...very charming.

Of course my current male companion is a champion at spitting up through his mouth and nose. Men are so gross!

Seriously though, hope you're feeling better. I'm glad to see that your sense of humor hasn't suffered.

Is the male companion you're speaking of A, or E?

I figure it's the E-Man, because I never heard of my nephew puking through his nose.

Malott,

You DO have my sympathy. I may be wrong, but even Skye might not quarrel about Bekah checking in on you.

Drinking hot liquids and steamy showers help to loosen that junk up.

Also, if you can get a script for Allegra D, it works wonders. (OTC Clariton didn't touch it when I was suffering, but you may be different).

Better yet are the prayers Skye, myself, and others are lifting up on your behalf.

May you be healed quickly in the name of Jesus/Yeshua!

OK, OK, I'll pray. Tsofah, you shamed me into it. I usually don't pray about colds (unless Christina has one when she's pregnant, or unless it's threatening to become pneumonia), because they go away by themselves. Granted, they go away kicking and screaming through the host...

As for spelling, I go with "hawking," particularly when I'm giving my son a hard time about the German language (the hawk-and-spit language). It's more proper. "Hocking" is just vulgar. So it may be more appropriate for the current malady, but this is a family blog (usually), so I vote for "hawking" this time.

Tsofah,

Thank you very much. I'll try the hot shower first when I get home. Maybe hot broth late this afternoon or evening after a nap.

I do feel better, but the cough is tiring.

I'm pretty excited to be eating carrot cake while reading this post!! ;)

I'm sorry you're still miserable. Doesn't sound fun at all. And I remember the miserable feeling of too much coughing. I counted it as a workout once. Only because it made my abs hurt worse than any organized workout!
