My cold moved into my chest on Wednesday, and now I sound like a walking tuberculin ward. Kleenex tissues are my constant companion, because when you cough up something chewable, it's best to spit it out.
I am not charming company right now.
I am back at work and have been told that my cold-induced deep voice is very sexy. Just my voice. Evidently the rest of me is still pedestrian and frumpy.
The pitiless women I work with will give me no sympathy. They will just laugh when my voice cracks, and keep their distance. I will suffer alone.

As you know from a previous post, I've been sick all week... And today I was finally able to stay home from work and recuperate a bit. Mostly I've just been sitting, but when I went out to my mailbox I perked up quickly.
There was a box inside that contained chocolate covered fudge, green tea, chicken soup, some sort of sweet bread, and a very nice get well card. Because of privacy concerns, I will not mention the name of the person (It was Bekah) that sent me these thoughtful gifts.
The anonymous nice person (Bekah) and I have a sick-bed pact, which is obviously already working out great for me, in spite of Skyepuppy's meddling. I'm already planning severe headaches for next month, and influenza in the fall.
Kind and thoughtful people are rare... and are good friends to have.

So who will she support?
Washington --Hillary Clinton says running for office isn't on her "radar," but she still has an eight-person political team and sports two overflowing campaign war chests.
Her team transformed the former Democratic White House contender's massive campaign debts into a $3 million mountain of political cash, according to federal fund-raising records through the end of June.
"It raises questions about that nascent presidential campaign for 2016 - and she didn't close the door on that, if you read her remarks carefully," said the University of Virginia's Larry Sabato.
2016?
Hillary's responsibilities as Secretary of State are somewhat abbreviated, given the fact that Obama has appointed:
Dennis Ross - Iran Czar & Mideast Policy Czar
Richard Holbrooke - Afghanistan Czar
J. Scott Gration - Sudan Czar
And the big one: George Mitchell - Middle East Peace Czar
Hillary and Bill have received little respect from Obama. I figure Hillary feels a little bit forgotten after being in the limelight for 16 years. And Bill can't be pleased being moth-balled in Haiti. Obama's patronizing of the Clintons and their many supporters is all well and good... As long as his presidency is going well.
But if Obama's poll numbers continue to head south, and his socialist ways continue to bring bad reviews, the Clintons are politically talented enough to take advantage and position Hillary for a run in 2012.
If in 2010 the country seems rudderless, the economy is no better, the Dems lose seats in Congress, and the Community Organizer-in-Chief continues to appear inept... Mrs. Clinton will excuse herself from the State Department and the primary wars will begin.
The outcome may be different than the last time:
I am so sick. Due to the coldest July of my lifetime, (Bite me, Al) I have a summer cold. My nose is running, and my cough-irritated sore throat feels like it's bleeding. The lab is short of techs, as it often is during the summer, so staying home is not an option.
I could handle all this if it were not for The Brinks Home Security Commercials. You know, where the goon smashes through the door of the home and scares the people, usually women, half to death? Answer this: Why are the goons always white? I am offended! Stereotyping is an ugly thing... And it's hard enough for me to make friends.
How about some truth in advertising? There is a race of people who just might possibly, once in a while, maybe be involved in crime... That's right! I want to see some Oriental guys break down a few doors!
I'd feel better then.

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama said Wednesday that police acted "stupidly" in the arrest of prominent black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. and that despite racial progress blacks and Hispanics are still singled out unfairly for arrest.
Well, looking at the first six months of the Obama Administration you can't argue with the fact that Obama is an expert on "stupid."
I read the arrest report, and it appears that a well-respected white police officer dealt as best he could with a loud-mouthed, angry, black A-hole. There were plenty of witnesses.
Henry Louis Gates is obviously an angry black man, full of hate, who sees racism everywhere he looks... And is the very kind of person President O'Stupid has a history of identifying with.

Dr Howard Hendricks of the Dallas Theological Seminary once told his class to bring a list of people they knew personally, and who they believed were the least likely to accept Christ as their Savior. The class ended up with 69 names. They made a covenant to pray for those people every day for four months. They did nothing else to influence those people.
At the end of those four months, 37 on the list had come to faith... through no other known means but prayer.
Hendricks speaks about prayer between a husband and wife. In the evangelical community, one in two marriages fail. But a study by the Seminary revealed that when the husband and wife got together on a regular basis and shared time in prayer, that percentage went from one in two... To one in 15... Hundred.
We have not, because we ask not.
I don't know how they gathered that data, but I believe it.

From Pat Buchanan's prognosis for Obama's Socialist America:
The deficit for 2009 is $1.8 trillion, 13 percent of the whole economy. Obama is pushing a cap-and-trade bill to cut carbon emissions that will impose huge costs on energy production, spike consumer prices and drive production offshore to China, which is opting out of Kyoto II. The Chinese are not fools.
In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson called George III a tyrant for having "erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people and eat out their substance."
What did George III do with his Stamp Act, Townshend Acts or tea tax to compare with what is being done to this generation of Americans by their own government?
Coming to America to feast on this cornucopia of freebies is the world. One million to 2 million immigrants, legal and illegal, arrive every year. They come with fewer skills and less education than Americans, and consume more tax dollars than they contribute by three to one.
Wise Latina women have more babies north of the border than they do in Mexico and twice as many here as American women.
As almost all immigrants are now Third World people of color, they qualify for ethnic preferences in hiring and promotions and admissions to college over the children of Americans.
All of this would have astounded and appalled the Founding Fathers, who after all, created America – as they declared loud and clear in the Constitution – "for ourselves and our posterity."
China saves, invests and grows at 8 percent. America, awash in debt, has a shrinking economy, a huge trade deficit, a gutted industrial base, an unemployment rate surging toward 10 percent and a money supply that's swollen to double its size in a year. The 20th century may have been the American Century. The 21st shows another pattern.
We have forgotten who we are. Rome is burning, and the citizens are content, for now, with bread and circuses... As they mindlessly fixate upon the popular culture, and rest in the empty promises of Hope and Change. We have carelessly placed our country into the adulterating hands of socialist tyrants. They are propped up by a propaganda machine that intimidates dissent, and a popular culture that glories in its own ignorance. The United States Federal Government and its left-wing media machine have become our governing aristocrats, the enemy of representative democracy, federalism, and our constitutional promise of self-determination.
Coming elections may slow the momentum, but the insidious infection that plagues Washington is deep-rooted, bi-partisan, and terminal.
Maybe if we sink further into poverty and oppression, the sons and daughters of the Founding Fathers, along with their adopted like-minded heirs, will rise up and reclaim their country from Washington. But the dismantling of a powerful centralized government alway involves resistance, and I suspect this saving coup could be neither lawful nor bloodless.

"...the Federal Judiciary; an irresponsible body working like gravity by night and by day, gaining a little today and a little tomorrow, and advancing its noiseless step like a thief, over the field of jurisdiction, until all shall be usurped from the States, and the government of all be consolidated into one. When all government... in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the centre of all power, it will render powerless the checks provided of one government on another and will become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated.

(This is not to be confused with a mid-wife crisis. I'm cool there.)
I'm getting divorced... Oh... Uh... OK... From my sister! I'm becoming a vegetarian... I'm giving up all meat except beef, chicken, and pork. I'm running off to Rio with an 18-year-old Puerto Rican girl named Loretta. I'm taking an on-line course in Eastern Religions from the American College of Metaphysical Theology. I'm getting an eyelid tuck and butt implants. I'm getting my left ear pierced and the nape of my neck tattooed. I'm finally going to get serious about male-enhancement. I'm buying a convertible, a boat, AND a motorcycle. I'm changing my name to Girth Testicula.
This mid-life malady thing keeps attacking me every few years... Restlessness and the Blues. So I figure I need to do something really pathetic and senseless to get it out of my system... Once and for all!
I'd write more, but I'm late for a meeting with my Self-Esteem and Life Path counsellor.

I wish I had her muscle definition... And possibly her testosterone level. I think this woman could hurt me!
And in the tradition of Amy Carter and Chelsea Clinton... ... ... ... OK... I'm sorry. Besides, I don't think that's really the daughter. I'm positive I saw that girl selling crack at a local Jr High.
I saw the older daughter during the campaign... She was a little lady in a little dress, her hair was much different, and she was only 10 years old. This can't be her.
A little girl's "look" says much more about the parents than the child. I have no children, but I question the wisdom of cultivating an image straight from the pages of Abercrombe & Fitch.

In an astonishing admission, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she was under the impression that legalizing abortion with the 1973 Roe. v. Wade case would eliminate undesirable members of the populace, or as she put it "populations that we don't want to have too many of."
I believe we have "too many of" people like Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

American politics has constructed walls that Jesus never ordained. Conservative white Christians find themselves at odds with Believers of a different color.
While I believe that it's counterproductive to pander to African American victimhood, the white Christian culture of the early 20th century that tolerated "whites only" institutions and traditions, are culpable for the seeming legitimation of the Jeremiah Wright-type teachings. America has reaped what it so sinfully sowed.
Of course, the redemption for Black-America lies in the meekness that Jesus taught... As it is for us all... But the worldly ideal of justice pollutes their political thinking. And sadly, if Dr King's sermons had celebrated meekness, I doubt that we would have ever heard of Dr King.
It is the white American Church that failed... It failed when it accepted slavery... And it failed in its behavior after the Emancipation Proclamation.
The African American Church has aligned itself with a political party that embraces abortion, the radical gay agenda, and the Godless machinations of the ACLU... All of which the Black Church disdains... And I have to wonder where we would be today if historically we had stood together as brothers in Christ.
The Lord will judge and sort it all out. I personally hope to adopt our Savior's meekness, and try to understand the intentions and motivations of those that support the proponents of all that I find despicable. I suspect wisdom lies in a non-judgemental understanding that accepts and understands racial grievances for what they are. And ultimately, the Way, the Truth, and the Life will deal with our hearts, and rule the day.

MOSCOW (AP) - President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a preliminary agreement Monday to reduce the world's two largest nuclear stockpiles by as much as a third, down to the lowest levels of any U.S.-Russia accord, and counter what Obama called "a sense of drift" in the countries' relations.
I feel safer already. I'm confident that President Nitwit has the entire Russian government eating from his hand... Just where he wants them. Maybe the nation's newest Senator, Al Franken, can lend some of his formidable experience and expertise in dealing with this obviously subdued nuclear power.
I'd write more in praise of Obama, but I'm engaged in an Internet search for construction plans for my fallout shelter.

Dr Mitchell Taylor has been researching the status and management of polar bears in Canada and around the Arctic Circle for 30 years, as both an academic and a government employee. More than once since 2006 he has made headlines by insisting that polar bear numbers, far from decreasing, are much higher than they were 30 years ago. Of the 19 different bear populations, almost all are increasing or at optimum levels, only two have for local reasons modestly declined.
Dr Taylor has been barred from a meeting of the Polar Bear Specialist Group (set up under the International Union for the Conservation of Nature/Species Survival Commission) because his views on global warming and his polar bear data "do not accord with those of the rest of the group."
Dr Taylor was told that his views running "counter to human-induced climate change are extremely unhelpful". His signing of the Manhattan Declaration – a statement by 500 scientists that the causes of climate change are not CO2 but natural, such as changes in the radiation of the sun and ocean currents – was "inconsistent with the position taken by the PBSG".
Ah... The objectivity of true science!

Cap and Trade: It's an Energy Tax
"If somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant they can, it's just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted." --Barack Obama
