My Second Earthquake
This morning while sitting at my computer, my house began to shake as if a 60-70 mph gust of wind had struck it. It lasted a little less than 10 seconds, and was 5.3 on the Richter Scale.
...Probably wouldn't even have been reported in California?
My first earthquake was on a Sunday afternoon back in 1980 or '81. I was with my girlfriend and we didn't notice.

I learned during this earthquake that apparently what is required to awaken me from a sleep is actually picking me up out of bed and throwing me on the floor. I missed the entire thing and am in QUITE the minority for it here at work this morning. Don't know if it woke up the cats or not. It probably scared the hooey out of them and they probably tried to wake me up and I just flopped over and pushed them away. Some mom!
Bekah,
Sleeping soundly is a blessing... Even if sometimes you miss a few things.
However I'm reminded of a post you wrote recently in which you said you stayed up late because you didn't want to miss anything. Obviously, sometimes "things" happen in the morning. I have to wonder... If you'd been to bed at a decent hour last night would the earthquake have awakened you... Well, never mind.
Well I was up until one oclock!!! If it had just happened a few hours earlier, I'd have caught it.
And being up that late was NOT by choice. I was over-thinking life in general and could not find the off switch for my brain.
But even if i'd gone to bed at 9, I would have slept right through it. Probably.
Chris,
Congratulations!
Yes, they would have reported the earthquake here in California. Anything big enough for someone to feel gets reported (about 4.0 and up).
So, did you duck and cover?
Bekah,
We had one earthquake a really long time ago, back when we had cats. My husband was at work, and I was still in bed. The bed was rocking gently, and I thought it was one of the cats scratching himself, but when I looked, there was no kitty on the bed. One of them was on the dresser sitting up and looking around with his eyes really big. He looked ready to bolt, if only he knew which way to go. Your kitties were probably like that...
The quake woke me and my son up - hubby slept through it. I don't know how he did, because it seemed strong and seemed to last quite a while. Some bigwig said that's because of the type of soil here vs. California. I dunno!
The aftershock this afternoon felt strong to me as well, but it was only a 4+ apparently.
All in all, I could have done without the experience (BIG SMILE)
Sad to say I slept through it :(
I did feel one in California when I was driving once, though.
AICS,
Dang! It's good to hear from you!
Hope you're well. Also hope you'll be blogging again soon.
Miss that...
AICS,
What Malott said...
Thanks. Things are much better than they were, but I still have a ways to go. I'll pop in from time to time. Probably no blogging for a good bit.
