Ohio State vs. Michigan
Erik Kuselias works for ESPN radio and in November and December he went on and on about how Ohio State and Michigan should be allowed a rematch for the National Championship. His most memorable lines were: "They are obviously the two best teams in college football." And: "Don't you want to see the two best teams in college football play?"
Southern Cal 32
Michigan 18
Florida 41
Ohio St 14
Obviously, Erik Kuselias was wrong. You obviously can't judge teams from different conferences by their conference play.
But the problem today is that it isn't at all obvious that Florida is better than Southern Cal because they haven't played. And until there is a tournament in college football, there will be no champion... but rather just a yearly coronation by the sportswriters.

You are so right about that Chris. Until we allow college football to determine the champ the way all other sports do, then and only then will we know who's the best.
Just a foot-note, OSU still has "the best damn band in the land!"
OSU is perennially a force to contend with in many sports. And who knows? In a playoff system they might have come out on top in football.
But they didn't match up well with Florida.
"Obviously" a team can go undefeated and still not be the best or even really belong in the championship game. USC should have played Florida.
Anonymous,
As you probably know, the only team of note that OSU played outside the Big 10 was Texas, which ended up losing 3 games and was ranked 18th before they squeaked by another Big 10 team, Iowa, in their bowl win.
I am in favor of the tourney, but I don't think the university presidents will go with it. They just make too much $$$$$$ with the bowl system. Its a disgrace for the kids (players) and fans everywhere. Oh, and happy new year Malott!
