The United Church of Christ Add Campaign

By now surely everyone has seen the commercial for the United Church of Christ where people are ejected (via ejection seats) from the church because they are for whatever reason unacceptable. This includes two gay men as one puts his arm around the other.
http://www.ucc.org/commercial.html

This is the same "Church" organization that produced Reverend Barry W. Lynn of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State. Go figure.

Their motto is, "God doesn't reject people. Neither do we."

I would prefer that they'd chosen, "We don't obey God. Why should you?" But they didn't ask me.

My Church doesn't reject people either, but they also preach the truth regardless of the popular and fashionable culture of the day. We just can't bring ourselves to delete the word "repent" from our Bibles.

Regardless of their political stance... Their rewriting of scripture... Their remaking of God... They may serve a purpose. The UCC may be a first step for many people who are desperately in need of a savior.

It's something to pray about.

How could your church be so cruel? "Repent" is a four-letter word (well, six-letters, but if you remove the vowels, it's a four-letter word)! How can you keep it in the Bible?!?

I have to say, though, I like your motto better than theirs. Have you ever thought about getting into advertising?

I saw that advertisment and wondered if it was funded in part by GLAD. About a year ago they had a commerical with an usher granting and denying admission thru a velvet rope. Of course "same sex" partners were turned away among, what they viewed as "undesirables". My church teaches we are all sinners and fall short of the grace of Our Lord and need for us to repent. What I find offensive about the ad is the lumping of ethnic and handicaped with sexual perversion as sin. Ones ethnicity or handicap is not a sin, or did I miss something? Maybe I'm attending the wrong church.

Skyepuppy,

I tried saying "rpnt" and hurt myself.
Thanks.

Janice,

That's a great point. The Left will always try to paint us as mean and intolerant, even though I'm sure we care more about the gay community than they do... certainly in eternal terms.

And don't try to say "rpnt."

You know, I haven't seen this particular add, but I have seen the one Janice is referring to, as well as some by the United Methodist Church that are in the same vein. They are really disturbing to me because they not only go against what the Bible teaches, but they try to discredit those of us who do our best to follow what the Bible commands.

The Methodist Church uses the slogan "Open Minds, Open Hearts, Open Doors". Now this wouldn't be totally offensive if it only meant that the church welcomed those of all backgrounds to come to Jesus, but since the Methodist church allows homosexuals to hold leadership positions in the church, then they must, at least on some level, accept homosexuality.

What bugs me the most is that these churches have bought, lock, stock and barrel, the concept that we must be tolerant of everyone and everything or else we are "close-minded" and "intolerant". The problem is, the Bible calls us to be intolerant of sin. I don't know how these more "progressive" churches are able to reconcile their ideas with the commands of the Bible.
