Shooting Up in Church

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Authorities on Monday said the man charged with murder in a Tennessee church shooting left a four-page letter that detailed his frustration at being unemployed, his hatred of gays and liberals, and his expectation that he would be killed by responding police.

The church, like many other Unitarian Universalist churches, promotes progressive social work, such as desegregation and fighting for the rights of women and gays. The Knoxville congregation has provided sanctuary for political refugees, fed the homeless and founded a chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, according to its Web site.

They founded a chapter of the ACLU and fought for the rights of gays? What sort of New Testament Church is that? Hmm... Maybe they told the Gays to "Go, and sin no more."

Maybe.

I undertand a brave man stood between the nut and the congregation and sacrificed himself... Saving many.

Greater love hath no man than this.

While I DO NOT think it is EVER ok to go on any type of shooting spree...EVER....

I question if this is a church that seeks the holiness of G-d, or a social club.

It's not my definition of following the teachings of Jesus.

However, the man who did this must have been really psycho; I hope he gets the help he needs. And...jail time if not institutionalization.

The families of the two who died in the attack are in my prayers as well.

Tsofah,

I would not be surprised if the thinking of the shooter is tied to the conservative Evangelical Church. We are such an easy target.

While I don't approve of the Church, maybe we should praise the sacrifice of the brave soul that gave all.

We may some day have much to learn about these liberal churches... They do some good work, even if Jesus is hard to find in their beliefs and their politics. It's hard to know what to criticise and what to leave to The Lord.

The Unitarian/Universalist believe in everything and nothing. They are definitely not a Bible-based church. I used to share a cubicle with an athiest who attended a U/U church for the social outlet it provided. There's no Jesus there.

I read a news report on this guy, and a neighbor of his said he hates Christians too. His parents "forced" him to go to church his "whole life," so he's not a Christian, and any attempts to pin that crime on Christians are bogus.

I agree with Skye, (and all of you) this church was not a Bible based church.

As I throw my 2 cents in, this man was not doing anyone any favors by shooting up a church he no longer agreed with. The act will be used as an example of moral equivalence between a muslim martyr and this irreligious nut.
It only gives ammo to CAIR, atheist and other anti-religion groups to critique Christians.
