Democrats Rule

After laying the groundwork for a decisive vote this week on the Senate's health-care bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested Monday that she might attempt to pass the measure without having members vote on it.

Instead, Pelosi (D-Calif.) would rely on a procedural sleight of hand: The House would vote on a more popular package of fixes to the Senate bill; under the House rule for that vote, passage would signify that lawmakers "deem" the health-care bill to be passed.

The tactic -- known as a "self-executing rule" or a "deem and pass" -- has been commonly used, although never to pass legislation as momentous as the $875 billion health-care bill. It is one of three options that Pelosi said she is considering for a late-week House vote, but she added that she prefers it because it would politically protect lawmakers who are reluctant to publicly support the measure. (emphasis added)

When Democrats rule, there are no rules. Left-wingers and Socialists don't care about law or the Constitution... Or the wishes of the voters. Kim Jong-il, Hugo Chaves, Fidel Castro, Democrats, and other tyrannical leaders care only about power.

And we handed it to them.

You see, it's only right that they should do that, because in our wisdom, the American public elected Barack Obama and the Democrats. We repudiated Bush and all Republicans and cast them into the dustbin of irrelevance, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. And it was given to the Democrats to rule in their vast benevolence for four, even eight years and more, providing for us that which they know we need.

But then some really stupid people spoke out from the dustbin in Virginia and New Jersey and (most shocking of all) Massachusetts and voted against their own self-interest to thwart all that was right and good.

And so the Democrats must do all they can, in any way they can, to restore America to the pure state of wisdom and grace that it enjoyed just a few short months ago. It's only right...

SP,

Well now that you put it that way...

I will hate to see them pass it that way... But at least we will be able to enjoy the ensuing furor.

"...it would politically protect lawmakers who are reluctant to publicly support the measure."

That just makes me sick. We, the "lowly" people who elected these high and mighty politicians, deserve to be heard and accurately represented, even when it might mean that they have to take an unpopular stand.

Does no one have a backbone anymore? I really do just feel physically ill thinking about it sometimes.

C,

If they pass this disaster, I don't think any of the Dems will escape the wrath of the American people.

If they survive November... Then we the people deserve what we get.

Democrats who don't want to go on record voting for it should be clamoring to have the opportunity to vote NO on it. If Her Highness pushes it through without a vote the consequence should still be the same for all of the democrats IF the public can see the logic. If they vote for it, they have to deal with the consequences of their own record. If they get out of voting for or against it by means of this back door method, the public should understand that we can't keep a Democratic Speaker of the House. The only way to get rid of her is to unseat democrats regardless of their voting record. Let's hope the people can connect the dots in November.
