Vermont to Secede
MONTPELIER, Vt. --At Riverwalk Records, the all-vinyl record store just down the street from the state Capitol, the black "US Out of Vt.!" T-shirts are among the hottest sellers.
But to some people in Vermont, the idea is bigger than a $20 novelty. They want Vermont to secede from the United States -- peacefully, of course.
Disillusioned by what they call an empire about to fall, a small cadre of writers and academics is plotting political strategy and planting the seeds of separatism.
They've published a "Green Mountain Manifesto" subtitled "Why and How Tiny Vermont Might Help Save America From Itself by Seceding from the Union." They hope to put the question before citizens at Town Meeting Day next March, eventually persuading the state Legislature to declare independence, returning Vermont to the status it held from 1777 to 1791.
The entire staff at Malott's Blog is in favor of this proposal. While it may be devastating to lose representatives of the stature of Sen. Patrick Leahy, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Rep, Peter Welch... We believe the U.S.A. just might survive without this ultra-liberal state.
So we say, "Goodbye Vermont"... "Good luck"... "And don't let the door hit your butt on the way out."

So, would that make Vermont an independent nation in its own right?
(Malott's "blog staff"? I've told you before, it's extremely wanky...)
(I'm honestly just saying it because I think it needs to be said, not because I'm a jerk)
(well, I am a jerk, but I'm being honest this time)
The libertarians are trying to infiltrate New Hampshire and make it secede from the socialist state that the US has become.
Secession to the Left and to the Right, both next-door to each other. What will Maine do once they're gone?
What would you think if Texas seceded, as they seem to always wish they could? Would it still be good riddance?
So I guess you would have been all for the Confederacy leaving the Union?
Malott,
The word "Manifesto" is an immediate red flag for me. If this tiny state cannot agree with what the majority of this country agree's with, then they have a problem. Either hang in there with us, or leave. I've a feeling they are doing the "you follow the rules I want or I'm leaving". To which the others on the playground said, "No. We follow the right rules. Go ahead, leave." Of course, the kid leaves, but comes back to play the next day.
Time to grow up.
