Ventures into Deep Theology
June, 2006

Once again it is time for Ventures into Deep Theology. So put your "deepest thinking" cap on. Here we go...

Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee,
Gave thee life, and bade thee feed
By the stream and o'er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, woolly bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?

Little lamb, I'll tell thee;
Little lamb, I'll tell thee:
He is called by thy name,
For He calls Himself a Lamb.
He is meek, and He is mild,
He became a little child.
I a child, and thou a lamb,
We are called by His name.
Little lamb, God bless thee!
Little lamb, God bless thee!

William Blake

Now take a deep breath and maybe a couple aspirin. You've earned it.

He is called by thy name

What a touching thought. That we are His sheep--unthinking, purposeless, smelly creatures, prone to wander--and yet He called Himself by our name. He took our form, endured our hardships, endured us, knew our hearts. And still He loved us. Even more, He identified Himself with us--Son of Man. It boggles the mind.

I don't think I'll need the aspirin. Maybe a hanky.

Smelly indeed. You should meet Andrew.

I used to have a poster of this poem in my room at college. I'd like to send it to all the "Evolutionists"... the confused little lambs...
