Bill Maher's Class on Display

This is what Obama and The Left thinks of our faith.

Blessed are you when people insult you. Matthew 5:11 NIV

My check to the campaign just grew by 50%.

My initial reaction is to call Maher some bad names, but I'll resist.

The left keeps proving, over and over, that the first line in Laura Ingraham's book, Shut Up and Sing, is true: "They think you're stupid." And because of that, I hope Maher and all his ilk will keep up the "good work." Frequently.

The left loves this stuff, so they keep their base happy with it. And the regular people in America will get so offended by it that the fence-sitters will jump to the GOP side.

Hugh Hewitt said on his show that he was at a TownHall forum with Prager and Medved over the weekend, and Hugh asked the audience how many of them had special needs children in their or their siblings' family. Lots of people. Then he asked how many had teen pregnancy in their families. Lots. And how many went to multiple colleges to get their degrees. And...

There are A LOT of people who identify with Palin in one or more ways, so every attack on her is an attack on each one of us who identifies with her. Bring it on! Obama is toast.

Skyepuppy,

Thanks for your thoughtful and encouraging comments.

James McDonald has had some great podcasts in the last 10 days, focusing on the seriousness of sin. And I think of all of us who struggle with addictions, spiritual weaknesses, and worldliness in general... struggling to keep our eyes on the cross.

And then I think of Maher and his kind who openly and blatantly set traps and mock God's sacrifice... Who have aligned with our enemies - foreign, domestic, and spiritual.

It's very sobering, and they deserve our pity.

Bill Maher has a well deserved reputation as a leftist, almost "anti-semitic" and definately "anti-Bush" person. Bottom line: he is a jerk.

HOWEVER...I do not think it is fair to blame this on Obama. (He does enough on his own that brings cause for concern.)

Mr. Maher and his staff did this one; reminicent (sp?) of the old Saturday Night Live "commercials".

Was it rude? Yep. Was it insulting? Yep. Was it crude? Yep? Will it have an impact on people? Probably not, given they had to use a laugh track.

Tsofah,

I've heard Obama marginalize the Bible. I've heard him belittle "an obscure passage in the book of Romans" in defense of the Gay agenda.

(There are no obscure passages in the book of Romans.)

But you're right. In this instance Maher is responsible. Still, it's the same kind of thinking... The same rejection of Christianity.

Please know that I'm not an "Obama fan".

As far as rejection of Christianity: I'm (sadly) heard some who profess to be Christians made similar jokes, comments, etc.

The problem is they are not being taught in church or at home what it means to have Christian morals and goals in one's life. (Like honoring family, parents, educational goals, career goals, etc.)

My personal opinions of Palen or Biden or McCain or Obama are not what is deciding my vote. I was taught to look at the platform first. Then, look at the checks and balances. This keeps a Presidency from being a dictatorship...according to what my grandfather felt. It seems to hold so far.

As far as what G-d thinks? He doesn't like name calling, being a false witness, and mistreating others. So, I don't think He'd be too pleased with our behaviors - starting with my own. :-(

I left a comment under "anonymous" recently and appreciated your thoughtful response.

Tsofah's comments deserve a thank you, and I'm leaving mine here as well as at her blog. Thank you for pointing out that this video wasn't done by the Obama-Biden campaign, and that it mimicked the old Saturday Night Live "commercials." I'm an Obama supporter who is dismayed at the hatred and rancor in this presidential campaign (perpetrated by supporters of both "sides" and NOT the candidates themselves). I'm reading a few thoughtful blogs written by conservatives as my attempt to better understand your views. I mentioned both of your blogs in my post Wednesday.

Lydia,

I'm glad you're dismayed to see this kind of rancor. As a Christian and a conservative, it hurts to see a woman I identify with demeaned this way. The attack on her feels personal to me, because it's an attack on my values as well.

Having said this, it's made me go back and look at my blog to be sure I'm not doing the same kind of name-calling and belittling of the other side. I found two targets of my own disdain: the extremely biased "objective" press, and the environmental extremists who want to return us to the Pre-Industrial Age (except for their own mansions, private jets and limousines). I'll have to be careful not to be hurtful.

Thanks for the reminder.
