Quotes for the Day

"One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter (Willow Palin) was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."
--David Letterman

"Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us that some Hollywood/NY entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands. That acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others."
--Sarah Palin

"...any 'jokes' about raping my 14-year-old are despicable."
--Todd Palin

Update: Today, Friday, in an MSNBC internet poll, Americans said 52% to 48% that Letterman should -not- apologize and that Palin should lighten up.

Whoa!!!!!! Don't you just love contrasts for putting things in perspective???? By the way...that kind of perverted attitude is one of the main things that get Muslims to think of us as great satans. Thanks, Dave, and thanks, Hollywood for your contributions to our national security!

Grammy,

It made me think of the the "Nappy Headed Hoe" comment Don Imus made about some black college-age female athletes.

But Letterman's comments won't come close to getting him fired.

I wonder if Letterman would have found this so funny if it was his son involved in a teen pregnancy?

It was beyond a cheap shot. Every single person makes mistakes and teens, in particular, are at an age where the stakes can be high for those mistakes.

It's a sad situation for the Palin's, but at least they are trying to do the best thing for their family.

Christina,

I agree that the family has made the best of an embarrassing and very private mistake.

Sarah Palin never responded to personal attacks about her intelligence and abilities, but I'm glad she took the gloves off when it came to her daughter.

That little girl that sat with her mom at Yankee stadium is 14 years old, and a sexual joke was made about her on national TV.

She shouldn't have to deal with that and the man that said it should be taken off the air.

Who is Letterman to talk about unwed pregnancy? Didn't he just marry the "baby mama" he knocked-up AFTER the bastard delivery? He's over 60 and should know about birth control and being responsible!

Why stop with the Palin kids, go after the Obama girls. Oh...nevermind.

Janice,

Obama's daughter, Malia, will be 14 in three years... Then Letterman can make jokes about someone raping her. However, that would probably be considered racist.

I thought about posting something about Letterman's bastard son... But i'll wait till he's 14, too.

This definately was in poor taste. I guess the kids are open fodder now that the election is over.

Malott said...

Tsofah...

Depends on whose kids you're talking about!

The impression many Americans were left with after the Left's campaign was that Sarah Palin and her family were just trash... What's so bad about verbally defaming a little girl who is just trash?

As a Jew I know you understand how devaluing an individual's personhood has worked in the past.

I think Dave should be more careful...I suspect Todd Palin could squash him like a bug.

Malott said...

Grammy,

I'm sure you're right about Todd Palin.

But acknowledging the Momma Bear thing, I figure Dave would have every bit as much to fear from Sarah.

The woman does hunt moose.

Such is our country.

I actually find that poll kind of encouraging. Only 52% favor Letterman and it's an MSNBC audience! So far the Fox poll shows 83% in favor of an apology. On any other left-right topic those numbers would be pretty much reversed for MSNBC and Fox.

Grammy,

I hadn't considered the kind of people who routinely visit the MSNBC site.

That IS encouraging.
