Republicans had total control of all branches of government for 2 years after this. You've won 7 of the last 10 presidential elections. You've controlled the house for a full 12 years and the senate almost as long, and conservative ideology has been the driving political force in the country for at least 28 years.
You missed this. You didn't put this on the agenda. You did nothing.
Paw, Maxine Walters, a Democrat, said there was no problem at Fannie Mae, all was well, etc.
For the past 4 decades, our economy has done well 95 percent of the time. It was crappy under President Carter and is so now under President Bush.
The difference is, with Carter, he didn't have to deal with multiple terrorist attacks on the mainland; and multiple hurricanes destroying town and cities. Just one of these events is enough to cripple an economy. With two, you get trouble upon trouble.
Even without the housing fiasco (enabled by both Clinton and Bush Administrations), this nation would be beyond financially strained.
Btw, I was raised a "republicrat", i.e., to look at the people, the platforms, and the proposals of both major parties. The majority of my extended family votes Democratic ticket. Me? I vote a split ticket - a true Independent.
I always appreciate your voice and views. I don't think I've said that before, but I've wanted to.
We could play Who Said What And When all day. That's not fruitful or fun.
The only point I'd really try make here is that anyone who tries to lay ALL the blame at Fannie or CRA or the Dems, or make the claim that Republicans had this all figured out and were stymied by Dems, is out to deny facts they don't like and to manipulate and drive people to a certain conclusion. My humble objective is only to underscore that.
To the new point that you're opening up, that things outside of our control are to blame for the state of affairs and the trillions of pre-bailout Republican debt that I'm saddled with, I'll just disagree and leave it at that.
