My Birthday Present

Every year I buy myself a present, and this year I bought a ladder bookshelf. Since I don't have an overhead light in my computer room, I needed something tall on which to put my lamp, which is connected to the wall switch.

You might also notice the drawing that my second cousin, Libby, made for me when I was a little boy. It shows a bad black-haired boy hitting a nice blond-haired boy (me), and Jesus giving the bad boy a black mark. This taught me that when kids beat me up, they would get theirs from Jesus.

On the second shelf you can see my great-grandfather's pocket watch. There is also a picture of my girlfriend from college, who ripped my heart from my chest and stomped on it... For which she no doubt got a black mark from Jesus.
On the wall there is also a tasteful wooden clock made in the shape of Indiana.

I am a huge fan of self-given gifts. I have a birthday about once a month so I can observe that policy. Unfortunately at the age of 412, I can no longer get out to shop. HA!

I LOVE the shelf. I have a couple of (much lower end) ladder shelves and they are the way to go. You have excellent taste. :)

And your card is in the mail. NO really. It is.

Bekah... Honey...

If you send me a card, then on your birthday I have to either send you a card or feel very guilty.

You've noticed I generally choose the 2nd option.

And yes, we are tasteful Hoosiers... (An oxymoron? To be sure!)

You've got to admit that the wooden Indiana clock is simply a hoot!

I have to say I was very surprised to see the Indiana clock. I thought it was only Texans who made all their possessions in the shape of their state. One of my nephews has a Lone Star flag as his shower curtain. It's the sort of disease I didn't expect you to fall prey to.

Oh Skyepuppy...

I'm a sick, sick man! Actually I'm so secure that I can let my friends see how simple and unpretentious I am... Simple to a fault!

Love the shelf! It looks good, and it fits well where you placed it - wall outlet or not (smile). The lamp color really accents the black well.

How touching you have your g-grandfather's pocket watch displayed. I know such things mean a lot. LOVE the hand-drawn picture of Jesus giving a black mark to bullies! It's way cool you saved it and framed it.

I don't know if you saw or not, but I wished you an early Happy Birthday on Facebook! (yay!) I do hope it was a good one.
