In Contrast to Picture Below

Eighteen and pregnant, Sycloria Williams went to an abortion clinic outside Miami and paid $1,200 for Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique to terminate her 23-week pregnancy.

Three days later, she sat in a reclining chair, medicated to dilate her cervix and otherwise get her ready for the procedure.

Only Renelique didn't arrive in time. According to Williams and the Florida Department of Health, she went into labor and delivered a live baby girl.

What Williams and the Health Department say happened next has shocked people on both sides of the abortion debate: One of the clinic's owners, who has no medical license, cut the infant's umbilical cord. Williams says the woman placed the baby in a plastic biohazard bag and threw it out.

Police recovered the decomposing remains in a cardboard box a week later after getting anonymous tips.

"It really disturbed me," said Joanne Sterner, president of the Broward County chapter of the National Organization for Women, after reviewing the administrative complaint against Renelique. "I know that there are clinics out there like this. And I hope that we can keep (women) from going to these types of clinics."

Gee Whiz, Joanne! The baby is dead... That was the whole purpose of the procedure. Is it really that important to you how the act played out?

This is exactly the scenario Obama supported when he argued and voted against the Illinois version of the Infants Born Alive Act. If someone comes in for an abortion, she gets one, one way or another.

We wouldn't want Williams to be punished with a baby, now would we?

Skyepuppy,

Exactly.

I especially like the faux-concern on the part of the NOW representative. After all... These tissues are supposed to be dead when we see them. It really confuses the issue when they come out breathing and viable.

One other thing... I wonder if abortion clinics routinely underestimate fetal age in order to sell more services.

If this baby had air in its lungs - if it was breathing - as Christina's Blog explains, this child could have been further along than 23 weeks.

You know, in the news account today (as more facts are gathered), Williams apparently named the baby.

Now, I don't know about you, but I have never once even considered naming any mucus or blobs of tissue that have left my body.

And Chris, I have no doubt that these clinics routinely underestimate the fetal age to push abortion. I'm surprised they even did an ultrasound, since that would have shown Williams exactly what she was about to kill. I would bet money Williams never saw the ultrasound screen, only the tech.

In some states, this would be considered murder, no doubt. This child was born, whether they call it a spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) or whatever. The baby was born, and efforts should have been made to save it's life.

What kind of society have we become?

I think the appropriate term is "godless."
