Can a Fetus Beat Us?

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas laws allow the killing of a fetus to be prosecuted as murder, regardless of the fetus' stage of development, but they do not apply to abortions, the state's highest criminal court has ruled.

The court ruled unanimously that state laws declaring a fetus an individual with protections do not conflict with the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade ruling that protects a woman's right to an abortion.

"The Supreme Court has emphasized that states may protect human life not only once the fetus has reached viability but 'from the outset of the pregnancy,'" the court said. "The Legislature is free to protect the lives of those whom it considers to be human beings."

Interpretation: Killing a fetus is such a horrible and reprehensible act... You'll be sent to prison for the rest of your life... Unless you're a woman who is physically attached to the fetus. Then killing it is OK.

An unborn baby is only a person when the mother wants it to be.

Skyepuppy,

True... And illustrates the irrational thinking in a culture where there are no absolutes.

An unborn human has a heartbeat at 6 weeks which can be seen on an ultrasound. I know - that's when I first saw my son. He looked like a white "tadpole" with flippers and this little blinking dot which the techs showed me was his heart beating. A few weeks later and he had a head, eyes, nose, body, arms, legs, fingers, toes, etc.

So, whether I wanted him to be a person or not - he was. (Taking from Skye's posting)- we need to be able to show the mother that she is a mother already, and the baby is a baby, no matter what she thinks.

Dear G-d, restore our sanity!
