You Gotta Love This Woman

Rush Limbaugh played a recording of "our Jean" speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives. Jean Schmidt, the freshman congresswoman from Ohio, is the lady who defeated Paul Hackett in the recent special election in Ohio.

Schmidt said:
A few minutes ago, I received a call from Colonel Danny Bopp, Ohio representative from the 88th district in the House of Representatives. He asked me to send Congress a message: "Stay the course." He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message that "cowards cut and run; Marines never do." Danny and the rest of America and the world want the assurance from this body that we will see this through.

At this point the Democrats roundly booed Congresswoman Schmidt. (and, in effect Colonel Bopp, too) This woman has guts.

You know, in all of the talk that I have heard after this congresswoman's comment on the floor of the House, one comment has stood out to me. I don't even remember who said it (it may well have been the "conservative" analyst on the program), but the gist was something to the effect that this was the reason why the House leadership should not let freshman members speak out like this.

I have to disagree...I think it's time that some of the new voices are heard. It's too easy for the older and "wiser" politicians (on both sides of the aisle) to fall into the habit of trying to be politically correct and sensitive in every way to everything. Sometimes a fresh and honest voice that is not quite as jaded is exactly what we need.

I have to agree with Congresswoman
Jean Schmidt that Mr. Murtha stay the course in Iraq. I have to agree... "it's time that some of the new voices are heard. It's too easy for the older and wiser politicians (on both sides of the aisle) to fall into the habit of trying to be politically correct and sensitive in every way to everything. Sometimes a fresh and honest voice that is not quite as jaded is exactly what we need."

With his experience (on both side of the aisle), he could have expressed his disatisfaction with the opposition in a more professional way. I am ashamed that I am a voter who HAS SUPPORTED HIM IN ALL HIS ENDEAVORS FOR THE 12TH Congressional District. I cannot support him for his position to cut and run. I personally feel this has become a political issue for him to position himself with the Democratic Leadership in the House (Nancy Pelosi) for a Chairmanship after the next electio.

I see that on his Bio that he has
received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

The question that I have is "What did he do to receive these awards?"
I know what John Kerry and John Mc Cain did in service of their country. As an Intel Officer, Did he hurt one of his typing fingers while working in an office?

Christina,
Thanks for the info... all the criticism I've heard has come from the Left. Schmidt expressed perfectly the sentiments of at least 25% of the nation... probably closer to 50%. So it was completely proper that she said what she said. And I believe she in no way was calling Murtha a coward... that was just political spin.

Anonymous,
Thanks for your comments... I hadn't even thought of the chairmanship issue. Maybe we should never underestimate a congressman's ambitions.
