Obama could not resist campaigning at the unveiling of George Bush's official portrait. At the unveiling of former President George W. Bush's official portrait at the White House this afternoon, President Barack Obama joined his predecessor and their wives in delivering brief (and at times nice, cordial, and funny) remarks. But there was a seemingly out of place moment during the ceremony when Obama seemed to veer into reiterating his frequent trope that he inherited a bad economy from Bush.
"We knew our economy was in trouble, our fellow Americans were in pain, but we wouldn't know until later just how breathtaking the financial crisis had been."
These portrait unveilings are traditionally a time to put politics aside and praise the work of former presidents. But Obama did not have sufficient class or manners to resist claiming that he inherited a mess from the Bush administration.
I was watching at work, and had to leave the room... disgusted.
It is characteristic of a narcissist that he perceives every event as a stage upon which promote himself.

Bush and Obama have this much in common: they both say deprecating things about Bush.
The Bushes' speeches were classy.
