Upon Request

"The untold want, by life and land ne'er granted,
Now, Voyager, sail thou forth to seek and find."

-Walt Whitman

Thanks for the email, and sorry it took me so long.

I first read this call to travel and adventure 35 years ago, back when I was a timid, sheltered 18 year old.

...I'm still thinking it over.

I really like that quote - probably a reason I should read from a wider spectrum....I'm missing some good stuff!

I was going to tell you - I made dad take that voting test - and he got a 94. Made me sick. BUT I was slightly consoled that he thought Alec Baldwin was the Canadian prime minister. He so does not know his actors. I made sure to tell him that I got every single one of those right. Then I shut up because he beat me by a long shot overall.

Bekah,

It's funny how clueless we can look when we step outside our zones of interest and expertise.

Yesterday I sent a rather complicated set of tests to our reference laboratory in South Bend. As I often do, I called the lab to let them know what was coming. Yesterday's call put me in contact with a young African-American woman named "Tee."

When I finished telling her what I'd done, she said, "You're the bomb."

I still don't know what she meant.

Malott,

As the mother of young 'uns, I can tell you, "You're the bomb" means "You're the man."

Skyepuppy,

This is comforting.

I have not been idle on this issue - I have found a song on amazon called "You're the Bomb" - but it appears that it is something a guy calls a girl - as in perhaps maybe a "Blonde Bombshell" - which might be an attack on my masculinity - but I cling to your more positive interpretation.

Oh I so needed a good laugh this morning. I love it!! Stick with Skyepuppy's interpretation. She's right.
